Colonel Amarjeet Kanwar is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with the Hutt Valley DHB. After getting his medical degree in 1978 he joined the joined the Indian Army where he served as a field medical officer in remote locations in Kashmir and the Indian desert. He rose to the rank of Colonel. Dr Kanwal has extensive field experience in treating battlefield casualties. In 1988 he trained and obtained his post graduate qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He joined the New Zealand health services in 2003 and has served as a specialist promoting comprehensive care for women. He has a keen interest in teaching and research. Dr Kanwal spends his spare time doing social work in the local community. He has built a wide network within the medical fraternity both in New Zealand and in India.
